Fan Filter Unit
A fan filter unit (FFU) is a type of motorized air filtering equipment. It is used to supply purified air to clean rooms, laboratories, medical facilities or microenvironments by removing harmful airborne particles from re-circulating
air. The units are installed within the system’s ceiling or floor grid. Large clean
rooms require a proportionally large number of FFUs, which in some cases may range from several hundred to several thousand. Often contain their own pre- filter, HEPA filter and internally controllable fan air distribution
Applications of Fan Filter Unit
Fan Filter Units are used in critical applications such as healthcare, pharmaceutical compounding or microelectronics manufacturing. The high efficiency motor is designed to overcome the static pressure of the integrated filter, making FFUs ideal for retrofit applications where the air handler is not able to provide the required static pressure. With blower speed controller as standard feature can save around 5 to 7% operational costs.
Operations of Fan Filter Unit
- A motorized Fan Filter Unit (FFU) is designed to create an atmosphere of
particle free air in the area located directly in the airstream. - Removal of the pre-filter on top of the unit allows access to the fan assembly.
The motor is internally thermally protected against overload. - A motorized fan is used to pull air through the filters for distribution to rooms or
enclosed work stations such as hoods. - HEPA filters remove particles 0.3 um or larger at 99.99% efficiency, while ULPA
filters remove particles 0.12 um or larger at 99.999% efficiency.
